Advanced Foods Class: The Korean Market

Right in the middle of our study of European and Asian foods,
I took my Advanced Foods class to the "H Mart" in Carrollton, Texas!
What an amazing cultural experience that was!!!

You walk into this huge warehouse sized shopping experience
and immediately you are overwhelmed.
The sights, the sounds, the smells!

I gave my students instructions on what they were to look for
and off they went while I browsed all over this Asian superstore!

If I learned anything as I was wandering around, it was this:
Americans are food snobs.
Our diets are intentionally limited.

We are pretty happy with about 5 different food choices and are unwilling
to try anything new and unusual simply because it's different.

I'm willing to bet the consequences of those attitudes
are reflected in the staggering amount of disease and prescription drug dependence
that is epidemic in the United States.

There were just shelves and shelves of squid.
And more varieties of fish than I even knew existed.
Fresh, frozen, freeze dried, honey coated......it was there.

There were so many different kinds of mushrooms and fruits
and vegetables that I had absolutely no idea what to do with.

Seaweed, fish balls, kimchi, rice, noodles, and other flavors
I had never been exposed to!!

I was certainly intrigued by my lack of knowledge of how to prepare
and serve 99% of the items in that store.

It never ceases to amaze me the incredible variety that our Master Designer
gifted to us on this earth to display his creativity and love for us!!!

Grant's 15th Birthday

The weekend after our big performance of The Centurion,
we honored our oldest son's accomplishment of another complete journey around the sun.
Not being a man of much pomp and circumstance,
he requested we not have a party.
He didn't even want a lot of gifts.
Just a batch of  "puppy chow" all to himself.
To sleep in as late as he wanted.
 Oh, and some money.
That makes it much easier to prepare and shop for!
We had so very many things going on on his birthday,
so his dad did take him out the following week for a special dinner.
But that was it.
Maybe boys are a lot easier than girls.

Kidding.

The Centurion 2017

Back in December, the plans were laid for this year's Easter drama
at our church!
It was an honor to once again have the opportunity to direct an amazing story!

I began praying for cast members and a clear vision
for how it all needed to come together.

Some people were happy to reprise their roles from our last performance three years ago.
Others were in a different stage of their lives and could not.

God filled our cast list.

We started meeting every Tuesday evening for rehearsals.

Phone calls and multiple meetings with a new stage manager.
Costumes chosen and rented.

Our entire family played a part.

Months of planning, work, details.
But it all came together in one glorious evening of worship
as we recounted the power found in encountering our Risen Savior!!

{This is Henry.
The service dog of our stage manager.
 You better believe
I saw the Lord's hand in leading this incredibly talented lady to us!!
She doesn't let her Type 1 Diabetes keep her from serving the Lord!
Henry is her faithful companion and patiently stayed at her side throughout
every rehearsal and performance!}

To God be the glory.
We know of at least 2 precious souls who came to accept Christ
as their Savior as a result of seeing this story!!
Great things HE hath done!!!
