Usually, we take our annual road trip to Ohio
in the middle to end of summer.
But this year, we wrapped our trip around a special family gathering
which so happened to be at the very beginning of June.
We were on the road two days after the last day of school,
and I discovered that this was a beautiful way to jump start our summer.
The first 6 months of this year was liking stepping into a tsunami
and being dragged under and flailing up for air as the months raced by.
Stepping off that speeding train into a slower pace was just the ticket!!
Being away from home, away from the phone calls, the text messages,
the appointments, the daily grind of never-ending home chores,
the dog barking at the bing-bonging door bell of the neighbor kids looking for a friend to play,
helped reboot our minds.
Sitting at the kitchen table with my mom or dad, sitting on the front porch
for a few quiet minutes, walking down the slow country road as dusk,
slowly enjoying a mile-high ice cream cone,
or the beauty of my Mom's flower garden
settled our senses and refreshed our spirits.
I'm hoping to be even more intentional this summer about looking for moments
to slow down and really relish in the goodness of God around me.
